Promoting digital transformation in local communities

To ensure the sustainable growth of our local communities, J:COM will work with local governments and partners to solve local issues such as transportation, medical care, and education through digital transformation.

Telemedicine

Elderly people account for 29. 1%* of the total population in Japan, and an increasing number of them have difficulty in making hospital visits due to transportation and nursing care issues related to hospital visits.
In July 2021, we started Telemedicine service in some areas, which is expected to be a solution to local issues.
From 2023, online medication guidance and an application for smartphones will also be available. J:COM Regardless of the service area, patients will be able to receive medical care, medication guidance, and prescription medication via smartphone or TV.

Examples of initiatives

The entire process from use to receiving medication can be completed within the apartment building.

At a condominium completed in Takarazuka City, Hyogo Prefecture in January 2025, residents can complete everything from using "J:COM Telemedicine" to receiving medication by post, all within the apartment. Support for initial setup and operation is also provided, making it safe and easy to use for people of all ages, contributing to a safe and comfortable life.

Participating in the "New Sapporo Model"

We are participating in the "New Sapporo Model," a digital garden city-state initiative by Sapporo City to solve the problems of aging regions. In addition to Telemedicine using television, we have built a system that links to Telemedicine services via the MY J:COM app in the "Sapporo Area Smart App," which targets 12 cities and towns surrounding Sapporo City.
We will expand this initiative and contribute to solving regional issues such as population decline, an aging society with a low birthrate, and underserved medical facilities.

MaaS

J:COM MaaS

J:COM MaaS launched in April 2021 and is currently in operation at 36 stations (as of December 2024).
We have introduced minivans that multiple people can ride in together, and use a dispatch system equipped with a high-precision algorithm to transport sales staff.
With the slogan "Freedom of movement for everyone, from child-rearing generations to seniors," we are accumulating operational data every day with the aim of realizing new mobility services.

Contributing to the local community through mobility services

Together with Sakai City, Nankai Electric Railway, and Nankai Bus Co., Ltd., we conducted a demonstration project for the Nankai On Demand Bus to consider new means of transportation to solve the mobility issues of residents in the Semboku New Town area and improve convenience (October 1, 2023 to the end of January, 2024). With its hilly terrain and aging population, this area requires efforts to solve the mobility issues of residents. This initiative will contribute to discovering new attractions and revitalizing the area, while providing local residents with a fun mobility experience.

Provision of network lines for schools

We provide secure, high-speed, high-quality leased lines at low cost to local schools. By creating a comfortable learning environment, we contribute to solving everyday life issues together with the local community.

Human resources to promote regional digital transformation

Digital Promotion Committee

The Digital Promotion Committee is an initiative that the Digital Agency has been implementing since 2022 to realize a "people-friendly digital society in which no one is left behind."
Approximately 6,400 of our employees who have contact with customers have been appointed as "Digital Promotion Committee members."

Regional revitalization entrepreneur

In order to promote digitalization in the region, we signed an agreement with Chihayaakasaka Village in Osaka Prefecture regarding the "Regional Revitalization Entrepreneur System" supported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and are dispatching local revitalization businesspeople. Based on this agreement, we have started a project to provide smartphones free of charge to 300 seniors in the village who do not have smartphones. By popularizing smartphones through this project, we aim to promote digital transformation in the village that is tailored to each individual, such as digitizing Telemedicine and public transportation, and revitalizing the local economy, including creating a safe, secure, and livable village.
